BSG Associate Consultant, Steven Ing, delivered insights at the Banking: Big Data Conference, which took place at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways on 24 June. Steven, who joined BSG in 2014 to build the organisation’s Business Analytics (BA) capability, shared some of the insights gained over the course of his almost twenty year career in ICT.
According to Steven, business analytics is about getting the right information to the right people at the right time to support fact-based decision-making to gain competitive advantages. His talk on insights into big data in banking focused on “Adopting a Business Analytics Strategy in the Digital Revolution”. In South Africa, we are seeing a delayed uptake of big data in the banking industry and hence the customer experience is being compromised, which can have a hugely negative effect as we enter the “era of the digital bank”.
Steven’s presentation delved into the world of business analytics in an ever-changing digital world and how customer-centricity is shown to be driving increased value for companies across the world.
When looking at where we want to be, we need to assess the level of maturity of business in line with 4 key factors: customer experience, facts, digitisation and people. Finally, he uncovered the questions we should be asking ourselves to determine where we sit on the maturity scale.
BSG on Big Data
In support of our fact-based, customer-centric approach, BSG believes that truly understanding who one’s customers are and the experience one wants them to have is fundamental to the success of any business process improvement programme. This belief underpins the organisation’s commitment to building a Business Analysis capability. The understanding of this critical capability, enhanced by Steven’s presence in the organisation, coupled with integrated delivery experience over silo-based deliverables affords BSG a unique position in the market.
