At BSG, we are committed to making a sustainable and significant difference in some of South Africa’s poorest communities, through education and other ways we can contribute our skills and time. One of the ways we show this commitment is through our ongoing commitment to LEAP Science and Maths Schools and our annual LEAP Do-It Day, an initiative which sees BSGers facilitating workshops and hosting practical learning engagements with the students .This year, on Friday, 4 December, over 100 BSGers visited the LEAP 3 campus in Limbro Park, North of Johannesburg.

This event allows BSGers to give back by sharing their time and expertise with LEAP students. Through a series of facilitated workshops and practical learning interactions, BSGers were able to share their knowledge about some of the things they are most passionate about. Some of the highlights included CV WritingPersonal Finance, and Personal Mastery workshops, which taught the students valuable life skills to help ensure successful futures. In addition, more practical and hands-on workshops included dance classes, holistic wellness discussions and a practical DIY session, which saw the students changing plugs and building wooden picture frames. In keeping with BSG’s core business focus, there was also a software development workshop, during which some of BSG’s software developers showed the students the ins and outs of building a software platform.

In order to ensure the students took maximum value from the sessions they were given the opportunity to sign up for the workshop of their choice, this also meant that the BSGers facilitating the sessions were able to adequately prepare. Students from LEAP 3 were joined by their counterparts from the LEAP 4 campus in Diepsloot, who were transported to LEAP 3 to partake in the workshops. The annual LEAP Do-It Day was a great success, with over 150 students from both campuses taking part. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and gained immense value from interacting with people who have had exposure to so many different aspects of the IT industry.

Through our ongoing commitment to LEAP Science and Maths Schools, we hope to positively impact the lives of thousands of children, across South Africa.
