On 15 October, Nicholas Longley, COO of BSG and Product Owner of MyWorkLife, shared his expertise at the HR Technology Conference in Fourways, Johannesburg. The conference provided a comprehensive overview of global trends regarding the role of technology in the way people work and how today’s organisations are managed. Nicholas spoke about how HR is moving into new frontiers yet the pace of technological change, and expectations from business and employees, is demanding companies deliver technological changes more efficiently and effectively.

In introducing his topic, The Top 5 Considerations When Choosing and Managing A Technology Partner, Nicholas familiarised the audience with the process of technology selection and how they could associate it to that of selecting a new smartphone.

He then moved on to the categories of selection criteria to use when selecting a technology vendor: which he explained are vendor viability, functionality, technology, cost, services and vision. He explained that although these are vital, his talk would focus on five less obvious criteria to consider:

  1. User Interface / Experience
  2. Reporting and Analytics
  3. Data Security
  4. Ongoing Costs
  5. Product Roadmap
