BSG Associate Consultant, Steven Ing, delivered insights at the 10th annual ITWeb Business Intelligence (BI) Summit, which took place at Vodacom World in Midrand on 17 and 18 March. Steven, who joined BSG in 2014 with the specific mandate to build the organisation’s Business Analytics (BA) capability, shared some of the insights gained over the course of his almost twenty year career in ICT. Focusing on implementing an ‘enterprise approach’ to Business Analytics, Steven’s presentation touched on ways in which organisations can use the data they have at their disposal, and transform it into knowledge that provides insights into customers, risks, operations, and performance management.

There is an increasing demand from executives for a better understanding of how to deliver intelligence in their organisations. At the same time, many organisations are still struggling with managing their information assets and adequately understanding how to maximise its use to drive effective decisions. The underlying causes of information asset mismanagement start with understanding enterprise intelligence delivery and inconsistent BI/BA deployments. This also creates silos of information across enterprises. Steven’s presentation focused on the benefits of taking an enterprise approach to intelligence delivery, sharing maturity levels that organisations go through in their pursuit of delivering the right information, in the right format, to the right people, at the right time. He also covered the composition of a Business Analytics Competency centre.

In support of its fact-based, customer-centric approach, BSG believes that truly understanding who one’s customers are and the experience one wants them to have is fundamental to the success of any business process improvement programme. This belief underpins the organisation’s commitment to building a Business Analysis capability. The understanding of this critical capability, enhanced by Steven’s presence in the organisation, coupled with integrated delivery experience over silo-based deliverables affords BSG a unique position in the market, one that allows it to guide its clients in understanding their customers and their needs before launching into complicated delivery programmes that would provide minimal value to their customers.
